From a storyline perspective, the main WWE headlines since our last backstage recap have been dominated by names including Bobby Lashley, Lana, Tommaso Ciampa, Brock Lesnar, Cain Velasquez, The Rock and Tyson Fury.

Behind-the-scenes, meanwhile, we have learned some interesting stories from various podcasts and interviews about Vickie Guerrero, The Miz, Kurt Angle, Lacey Evans and Vince McMahon.

In this article, let’s take our weekly look at five of the best backstage stories that have been told over the last seven days.

#5 Vickie Guerrero asked to return

From 2005 to 2014, Vickie Guerrero had one of the most recognisable – and, let’s be honest, annoying – voices in all of WWE.

The former General Manager only had to say the words “Excuse me!” to receive the kind of merciless boos that every top heel in WWE dreams of getting.

Speaking on the first episode of her new podcast, Guerrero revealed that she noticed WWE was starting to use her less and that the company was going in a different direction with their female talents, so she gave one year’s notice ahead of her 2014 departure.

She has since connected with fans at wrestling shows and conventions, which made her want to return to WWE permanently. However, the company decided not to rehire her.

#4 How Vince McMahon viewed The Miz early in his career

The Miz, Kofi Kingston, Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross took part in a preview show on the ‘WWE Now’ YouTube series in the hours leading up to the first episode of SmackDown on FOX.

Reflecting on the early days of his WWE career, The Miz revealed that Vince McMahon originally only wanted him to be a host on television, much like American television presenter Ryan Seacrest.

As the years went on, “The A-Lister” moved away from his role as the host of various WWE segments, including the 2006 Diva Search, and established himself as one of the company’s most reliable in-ring competitors.

The Miz still hosts Miz TV, of course, but his legacy in WWE will likely be defined by his WrestleMania main event in 2011 and his nine Intercontinental Championship reigns, as opposed to his spell as “WWE’s Ryan Seacrest”.

#3 When Kurt Angle forgot his lines as RAW GM

Between April 2017 and August 2018, Kurt Angle worked alongside Stephanie McMahon as an authority figure on RAW.

In November 2017, the WWE Hall of Famer was supposed to inform Sheamus and Cesaro what they had to do to earn a spot on the red brand’s team at the next pay-per-view, Survivor Series, during a heated conversation between the three men backstage.

As Angle recalled while speaking to Eric Bischoff and Vickie Guerrero on this week’s episode of Table for 3, he forgot his lines and WWE ended up cutting the segment from television, even though it aired on a big screen in front of the live crowd.

He mentioned during the WWE Network show that Vince McMahon told him he can pull out notes and essentially read from a script if the same thing ever happened.

#2 Why Lacey Evans sleeps in her car

On-screen, Lacey Evans portrays a “Sassy Southern Belle” who uses her manipulative ways to get what she wants, while she likes to refer to people as “nasties” when things do not go her way.

Although the former marine usually stays in character when she is not appearing on WWE television, she told Austin Creed (aka Xavier Woods) on UpUpDownDown this week that she had a very rough upbringing, surrounded by drug addiction and depression.

Evans also revealed that, while most WWE Superstars stay in hotels when they travel to the next town for shows, she sleeps in her car and lives in a camper trailer.

#1 Vince McMahon’s reaction to RAW’s new announcers

WWE fans will find out the next destination of every Superstar when the roster draft takes place across two nights on the October 11 episode of SmackDown and the October 14 episode of RAW.

As for the announce teams, it has already been confirmed that Michael Cole and Corey Graves will be on commentary on SmackDown, while Vic Joseph, Dio Maddin and Jerry “The King” Lawler will call the action on Monday nights.

Speaking on his new The Jerry Lawler Show podcast, Lawler revealed that he did not have any communication with Vince McMahon during the latest episode of RAW.

At the end of the show, the WWE Chairman then spoke through Lawler’s headset and congratulated all three announcers for doing an “awesome” job.
